Jon's first commission on leaving college was to illustrate Jeremy Nicholas's "Raspberries and Other Trifles" for Hutchinson (1984), a humorous pastiche on Hilaire Belloc's Cautionary Tales.

 

Jon's first picture book was published by Macmillan in 1986. "The Old Man and the Edible Suit" was a humorous retelling of Edward Lears "The New Vestments" and went on to be exhibited alongside an Lear's work in Brighton. Jon went on to write and illustrate "Aardvarks Picnic" (Macmillan 1986) "Bones Birthday" and "Bones Day Out "(Walker Books 1990) as well as editing and illustrating "Nursery Cats" (Gollanz 1987).

 

Since then Jon has illustrated over 30 children's books for many publishers including Methuen, Macdonald, Michael O'Mara and Emma Books.
