Jon drew from an early age (mainly self penned comics) and his formative influences were heavily influenced by French and Belgium bandes dessinee, due to his parents moving to France. TinTin, Gaston Lagaffe, Asterix, Lucky Luke, Spirou and Fantasio are just a few of the books Jon regularly added to his growing collection. Franquin being one of his main inspirations at the time along with Quentin Blake in the UK.

In 1983 Jon Higham graduated from Norwich School of Art (BA hons in Graphic Design) and moved to London where he shared a studio for six years in the heart of Covent Garden. He had a break early on in his career when he was asked to illustrate Jeremy Nicholas's 'Rasberries and Other Trifles' for Hutchinson, a pastice of Hilaire Belloc's 'Cautionary Tales'. He quickly follwed this up in 1986 with an Edward Lear picture book called 'The Old Man and the Edible Suit' published by Macmillan and then in the following year his first self penned picture book 'Aardvark's Picnic'.

Over the last 34 years Jon has illustrated numerous children's books, packaging, greetings cards and a wealth of varied commissions as well as being a regular illustrator for BBC children's magazines (immediate-media) since 2000.

Jon's extensive client list also includes interactive BBC Jam (animation), Sainsburys (Christmas designs & packaging across dozens of products in 2006), Tesco Easter eggs (design & packaging), Dubai Health Authority, Paperchase (over 10 years), Gordon Fraser, Medici, Mothercare/ELC Jigsaws, Birthday Club (design & packaging) as well as in-store graphics & illustrations for the 2013 Christmas Campaign. Book and magazine publishers include Leapfrog San Fransisco, Macmillan, Michael O’Mara, John Brown Junior, Yellow Door, Walker Books, Gollanz, Hutchinson, Egmont and iseekcreative publishing. In 2015 Jon designed the re brand (logo and web design) in Battle East Sussex, where he also sell prints.

Since 2016 Jon has worked with Oxford illustrators and Designers and QBS (New York) on educational books for Schofield & Sims, Folens and Pearson (US). In 2016 Jon worked on Ella’s kitchen packaging re brand for KJA. Jon has also designed, written and marketed a successful series of early reading apps for children with over 30,000 downloads with translations into Dutch and Japanese. Jon is a greetings card designer for thortful greetings as well as marketing his own designs with Stationery Traffic.

Jon is also a sessional lecturer at Sussex Coast College teaching both Graphics and Illustration students on the  BA course. In February 2017 and 2018 Jon ran an app design workshop with 2nd year students from University of Brighton's Graphic Design for Digital Media BA course. 

In 2017 Jon's 'Royal Sovereign lighthouse' print was shortlisted in the top 25 illustration category for Creative Pool. 

In the Autumn of 2018 Jon embarked on a 2 year part time MA course in sequential design and illustration at the University of Brighton.

Jon lives in Ninfield, Nr Battle, East Sussex with his partner Katie, daughter Holly, Jack the wired haired Dachshund and two cats, Dotty & Miette.
